World News:
Culture Corner:

Cultural awareness is arguably an essential attribute that delegates are required to have; it allows for authentic representation as well as an understanding of the varying perspectives of nations beyond their individual lived experiences.

Participation in cultural experiences allows a worldview with respect and understanding of others whilst simultaneously acknowledging one’s own individuality.

This month’s cultural selection includes the latest news on recent highly rated music, critically acclaimed movies and exciting sports with a particular focus on multiculturalism to encourage cultural awareness (the recognition, understanding, and appreciation of the similarities and differences between cultural groups, including one's own).

Puerto Rican rapper/singer, Bad Bunny continued to skyrocket the international reach of Latin music, solidifying his legacy as a global superstar while creating a growing influence of Spanish music within mainstream media; one of his recently viral hit’s being DtMF, where his unique blend of reggaeton and urban genres leaves zero wonder as to why he’s one of the most streamed artists worldwide.

Transcending national boundaries and language barriers, Bad Bunny’s global rise signifies a cultural shift in the English-speaking mainstream music industry, performing as representation of our interconnected world.

And of course, the recent Super Bowl brought peak entertainment and, as always, proves once again why it continues to remain as one of the most viewed annual sporting events on a worldwide scale; Bad Bunny’s highly anticipated halftime show brought an electrifying and powerful performance with deep meaning surrounding identity, Puerto Rican history and the unifying multiculturalism of the United States of America. Culture connects us.

12 Angry Men is a classic despite having been released almost seven decades ago. Without spoiling too much for those who haven’t seen the film before, it follows twelve jurors who have been tasked with deciding a young defendant’s fate; the significance of reasonable doubt, bias, and prejudice arises (showing a lack of respect for cultural awareness) whilst themes of deliberative democracy and civic responsibility flow throughout the film.

I would recommend 12 Angry Men to students who are engaged or even interested in diplomacy and debate, as it demonstrates how resulting outcomes are determined through an individual’s critical thinking and persuasion.  12 Angry Men proves that one person, shoutout to Henry Fonda’s juror, can sway the entire room solely through the right questioning; very MUN-core.

What cultural media shaped your worldview?

See you in the next session, delegates! Bring your cultural awareness with you!

Event of the Month: Valentines Workshop
Special Weekly Workshops always stand out. They are always filled with great atmosphere and laughter, delegates discreetly arguing with each other, and sweet treats. This month´s Valentines Workshop, was no different. Delegates came to the workshop wearing on-theme outfits and brought  passion and  humor to the debate. When we say this workshop had a little bit of everything, we mean it! There was a performance done by Freddie Mercury and Taylor Swift, and to finish it all off, we voted Valentines Queen and King.

It brought us all together to practice MUN skills in a not so serious manner for a change, but rather in a humorous manner. In true TIMUN Society fashion, the atmosphere was supportive, friendly and most importantly, fun.

The workshop provided the perfect combination of academic development with social community building, granting it the well-deserved title of the ‘Event of the Month’.

 Special Event:
Roundtable Discussion with the Ambassador from Azerbaijan

We are honored to share that we had the pleasure of participating in an inspirational Roundtable Talk with the Azerbaijani Ambassador Mammad Ahmadzada on the topic of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.

The engaging meeting started by connecting with our fellow Azerbaijani students and continued with a unique opportunity to discuss and delve into the matter of international relations, diplomacy, and foreign policy.

We are thankful for this wonderful opportunity to meet Ambassador Mammad Ahmadzada and to share his expertise and perspectives on what it’s like to be an Ambassador.

At TiMUN, we are proud to connect passionate students with world diplomats and leaders who help shape the conversations on a global perspective and host thought-provoking discussions.

Thank you to the organizers Goncha Huseynzade and Linda van der Tujin for providing TiMUN Society members with the opportunity  to take part in such an enlightening discussion.

Meet our Members:

Ema Janošťáková:

(second year Global Law Bachelor)

1. Since when have you been doing MUN, and how has it helped you, either in your studies or in any professional settings?

I started doing MUN last semester for the first time. I believe it helped with my confidence in public speaking. Also meeting new people!

2. Do you have anything in particular that you really enjoy about MUN? Is it the conferences, the socials, or the workshops?

I think most of the activities provided by TiMUN are fun to attend. The workshops help me grow and improve in speaking while still having a friendly atmosphere. It’s basically learning while having fun! And socials in particular are always a blast!

3. How would you describe your overall experience of being a member of TiMUN Society, and would you have any words or encouragement of recommendations for new members?

Since I joined TIMUN Society I have had only positive experiences. The society is filled with like-minded and friendly people. I didn’t hesitate for a minute to become an active member! And I would definitely encourage new members to join as it gives you plenty of opportunities in Tilburg, as well as ability to travel to different countries to experience a more serious global MUN conference!

Michał Polak:

(second year Global Law Bachelor)

1.Since when have you been doing MUN, and how has it helped you, either in your studies or in any professional settings?

I registered for MUN this school year, but I had some previous experience. I have participated in the TiMUN Conference in 2025, which was a breakthrough for me. This is when I realised that I like it and it is more than just LARP. But even before that, in my high school I participated in some formal debates. Needless to say, I left the high school debating scene very quickly and never returned. SO, overall I had some experience, but not that much. I would say that so far MUN has not helped me in any obvious way in relation to my studies or professional life. However, it has helped me develop more on a personal level as I am now more open to public speaking, something that will come to be useful in the near future.

2.Do you have anything in particular that you really enjoy about MUN? Is it the conferences, the socials, or the workshops?

I like the workshops. Not only are they fun, but they are also light-hearted and leave place for improvisation and jokes. This is something that I really enjoy. It is not an overtly formal, stiff place where people are deadly serious. The socials are also nice.

3.How would you describe your overall experience of being a member of TiMUN Society, and would you have any words of encouragement or recommendations for new members?

I think that my experience of being a member is not very different from others. I have some of my friends in TiMUN, people I know and because of whom I joined. I like that the Society does things outside the classrooms. It organises stuff that can be enjoyed by many. This semester, I’ll also be organising more of these events. So, I hope I will see people enjoying the socials or events organised by me. That I would really like. As a recommendation, I would simply say: Come and experience it yourself. It is, at first, something different, maybe a little awkward, but it is also a place where one can be yourself. Especially if you were the ‘weird kid’ in high school.

Delegate of the Month:

Meet our Delegate of the month: Simeon Velkov. This delegate is new to the MUN World but has fully immersed himself within it. He is in the Academics and Auditing Committee. He has an almost perfect attendance  with coming to every weekly workshop and by participating in the socials. participating He is ambitious and keen to improve his own skills but never backs down from humorous debate when committee session get slightly side tracked.
