Member Spotlight: Journey to TIMUN – A Personal Story
In this month’s Member Spotlight, we’re excited to share an inspiring article by one of our members: “Story of How I Decided to Join TIMUN Society This Academic Year.”
She shares her eye-opening experience visiting the UN and the incredible opportunity she had to attend the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Keep reading to discover how these moments inspired her to become part of the TIMUN community this year.
Culture Corner- South Korea Uncovered
Explore the rich and vibrant culture of South Korea through three fascinating fun facts

1
Cuisine
Kimchi is more than just a dish; it reflects a rich cultural heritage. Its origins trace back to the third Kingdom of Korea. At that time, it wasn’t the spicy staple we know today; it served primarily as a way to preserve vegetables like radishes and cabbage during the harsh winter months when starvation was a real threat. Koreans fermented these vegetables in brine and stored them in buried jars.
Over the centuries, kimchi has evolved into a spicier condiment, becoming a crucial part of Korean culture. It’s so integral to their culture that Koreans say “Kimchi” instead of “Cheese” when taking pictures, showcasing the dish's significance in their everyday lives.
2
The Significance of Blood Types
South Koreans believe your blood type is related to your personality. Yes! Just like we view zodiac signs. For example, it is commonly believed that people with the blood type O have more extroverted characteristics and few character flaws.
3
Age System
In South Korea, a child is one year old at birth and gains a year on the first day of each year. Based on this system, South Koreans are one or two years older than their actual age in the internationally accepted age system.
Delegate Of The Month
Each month, we celebrate a standout member who has shown exceptional dedication, leadership, and diplomacy skills. This October, we are proud to announce Denis Habart as our Delegate of the Month!
Through his active participation in workshops, where he demonstrated significant personal growth. He has consistently attended our social events, and has displayed the skills of a model delegate.

Whether you’re a beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, these insights will help you take your delegate game to the next level.
Calvin Van der Meijden
2021-2022
“Make sure you are involved in the draft resolutions that are being written by proposing new articles or changing existing articles”.
Csengele-Katalin Kato
2023-2024
“Know what you can compromise on but also when to walk away from the table.”
Maurycy Marmaj
2022-2023
“Make substantive arguments. Whenever you speak, make sure that what you are proposing “adds” to the debate, rather than speaking for the sake of it! And whenever you feel like your arguments would change the course of the debate, go for it!”
Clarissa Ferreira
2024-2024
“Keep track of world news and always keep informed of what is going on, especially before a conference. Conduct research on the other delegations' positions as well as your own.”
Alptug Akinonder
2023-2024
Being active in the conversation and aware of the discussions is very important as one needs to explain their country's position in the debate and respond to the claims of other delegates!
Obe de Muyt

"Use all available tools to make your speech stand out, such as data and previous international actions/policies that support your stance."
