World News:
Culture Corner:

Hello, Delegates! This months cultural selection is in honour of International Women’s Month, a time of recognition and celebration of Women’s achievements across various fields such as film, music, and sports, highlighting their impact on society.

Films such as Queen of Katwe, I Am Greta, and What Happened, Miss Simone? each demonstrate powerful narratives of activism and resilience, ranging from personal determination for revolutionary achievements to their to trailblazing global advocacy. Queen of Katwe tells a story of a girl who becomes a symbol of opportunity and perseverance in her exploration in the world of chess. I am Greta shares Greta Thunberg’s rise into a global climate activist, demonstrating her dedication to using her voice to educate society and bring attention to climate change. Furthermore, What Happened, Miss Simone? shares the life of Nina Simone ranging from her her revolutionary civil rights activism along with her music career, earning her label as the High Priestess of Soul. Evidently, these stories bring attention to the diverse ways in which women shape the world around us.

This months selection of music is a mix of contemporary and iconic female voices; Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Joan Baez and Dolly Parton. Not only did these women define their respective genres, they left an everlasting impact on society and the music industry through their delivery of challenging societal norms and bringing awareness to social injustice. Their music continues to resonate with women today, reminding us all that artistic expression brings power to activism; their legacies highlight the intersectionality of activism and the arts.

Speaking of music, the recent Stateside remix by Pink Pantheress, featuring Zara Larsson has skyrocketed recently, with figure skater, Alysa Liu, boosting its popularity after winning the 2026 Winter Olympics Gold medal following her electrifying gala performance. Liu’s extraordinary resilience and her proclaimed focus on enjoying her time on the ice rather than striving to perform perfectly has cemented her as a role model and a key figure in the contribution to the growing recognition of female athletes on the international stage.

Happy International Women’s Month, delegates!

Event of the Month: Pub Quiz

A social event to remember! TiMUN’s Pub Quiz brought out laughter, friendly competition, and bunch of creative guesses. This time our delegates gathered in teams to put their knowledge to the test. From historical facts and legal knowledge to pop culture, every round brought new set of questions to spark the debate over the “correct” answers. This Quiz truly had it all: strong teamwork, quick thinking, and occasional lucky guess! Just like all TiMUN’s event, the Pub Quiz yet again brought our delegates together in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to share knowledge, grab a drink and potentially end as winner of the trivia. It encompassed all that a good TiMUN social needs and delivered a perfect mix of fun competition and team building, earning it the well-deserved event of the month!

 Special Event:
Tilburg University Spotlight on Talent

On the 26th of March 2026, we had the honor of attending the Spotlight on Talents awards at Tilburg University. Not only did we have the honor of attending, but we were nominated in the category of Social Impact Award for Students. This category shines a light on student associations and the work which they do. Moreover, it seeks to recognize the impact that these associations have in the  community.

Receiving a nomination for TiMUN Society shows how meaningful what we do is. Yes we are an academic society which has weekly workshops where we simulate the United Nations and discuss current global issues, hold professional development events and attend international conferences. These activities allow our peers to broaden their own perspective, but more importantly, be in an environment where they can think beyond traditional solutions and be innovative. Our academic side is incredibly important as it leaves an impact in our members daily life. They gain confidence in public speaking, leadership, critical thinking and problem solving.

However, it is important to emphasize that our association would be nothing without our social, community aspect to it. Being an international association, we strive to establish a community where every single student can feel at home. We strive to create a safe environment where everyone can feel like they can truly be themselves. We go to the bar together after every Monday workshop, and  we have 2 social events a month. This leaves an impact within the broader community and our members because it shows that yes we strive for academic excellence but above all we want to create a home away from home where you can truly unwind.

We want to thank Tilburg University for allowing us to undertake this challenge but we also want to thank our  members who make TiMUN Society possible ✨🩵.

Kind regards,

TiMUN Society Board 2025-2026

What to expect in April:
April Calendar 2026.png

Meet our Members:

Amber Oonincx:

(second year Global Law Bachelor)

1) You started your MUN journey at the beginning of this semester, so far how do you like it and what made you join TiMUN?

I absolutely love it, it has been so much fun and such an interesting and unique experience. I joined MUN because of the people and how they spoke about it.

2) Considering the immense amount of progress we have seen from your first to your latest speech, could you tell me what specifically motivated/encouraged you to attend regularly and what your favorite element of the overall TiMUN experience is, and what you are looking forward to from our upcoming planned events?

The first time I joined, I was absolutely amazed by how people were presenting countries. I am really unsure about my public speaking and it felt like a community that was so accepting, therefore I wanted to try and challenge myself. I think my favourite element about the TiMUN experience is the acceptance and enjoyment that everyone experiences within in workshops but also social events. I am looking forward to get to know more people and to further develop myself academically within MUN question

3) Do you think that TiMUN has helped you to be more confident when speaking publicly or has helped you in your studies/professional aspirations?

It has made me so much more confident with public speaking, but also with quick thinking when it comes to a challenging topic. It also helps me with negotiations and defending opposing sides, which is very helpful in a law program.

Simeon Velkov:

(First Year Economic Bachelor)

1) You joined TiMUN in the beginning of the study year. Considering this, could you tell how you like it so far, how committee work is going and whether the experience of being part of TiMUN has been able to match your expectations?

I am ecstatic to be part of this society, not just because of the weekly gatherings that I get to be a part of and immerse myself into, but I have also met some really intelligent colleagues, and I am extraordinarily grateful to be working alongside them, not only during our general sessions, but also in the Academics Committee, where everyone shares their own perspective on how we can provide a better experience for both newcomers and veterans. If I could go back in time, when I was skeptical of whether I could balance this with my studies, I would not have second-guessed myself - I absolutely do not regret becoming a member of this society.

2) Since you were delegate of the month for February, could you tell more about how you prepare for our debating sessions, and whether attending said sessions has helped you improve your public speaking skills?

I feel honored to have been recognized and I am very thankful for that. Personally, when researching a position, I try to imagine myself as the actual delegate/person that would attend a UN session: what ideas do I represent, how is my country viewed by the others, who are my allies, my enemies? The important factor is that you do not necessarily have to agree with these views, you just have to represent them. Everything else comes together on its own. I believe that this approach definitely helps with public speaking - not only do you build confidence, but you also gain an insight on how the person on the other side thinks. That is a crucial factor to keep in mind when it comes to debating.

3) What do you think is the best part of being a TiMUN Member? Weekly sessions, conferences, academic/professional opportunities, social events, or maybe even all of the mentioned elements?

For me, it is a blend of everything! The weekly sessions help me wind down after a tough week of lectures and tutorials, spending time at social events allow me to get to know everyone in a more personal way, and at conferences and professional events I meet people from all around the world, everyone with their own story to tell. These types of interactions are especially vital for any university student - one ought to have such connections, especially if they consider a career in international relations. For an Economics student such as myself, I am confident these skills will help me with negotiations with other businesses. But I think this extends to students in all fields, not just my own; communication is an important skill to have, and this society is an excellent playing field to practice on.
